Summary: "Inconsistent toasting, defective controls"

I liked the idea of a "cancel" button on a toaster, but mine only works sometimes. What happens at that point can be very dangerous. On numerous occasions, before I finally "got it" and stopped using it entirely, the toast would completely fail to pop. The first time this happened I was used to not worrying about toasters and went off to do something else. The smoke alarm let me know what fun I was missing out on in the kitchen. The toast was totally black and about to burst into flame. That should have been the end of it but I was in daily need of a toaster and not in a position right then to replace it, so I decided I would just toast when I was going to stay in the kitchen for the duration. Several times I noticed the toast getting overly done, at which point I attempted to cancel the toast with the button. The cancel button worked sometimes, but a few times it did not work at all, forcing a manual removal of the toast. And on the final occasion of my using it, even manually forcing the toast upwards was difficult. Now I'm officially toasterless, and I have a chrome box in my kitchen which apparently only has the purpose of burning, not toasting.

When this toaster did work properly, toasting was uneven, only toasting the bottom two-thirds of a piece of bread which was fully in the toaster. Plus, the toast level setting was horribly inconsistent: a setting at about 11:00 resulted in under done toast, and a setting of 12 or 1 burnt it. So, even if you get a sample that does not have the cancel button/not popping defect, it makes lousy toast. I would avoid it at all costs.
